Week 8 EOC: Oscars vs. Superbowl

The Oscars played more ads with academy award winners. The audiences have different demographics. The Superbowl ads raise awareness not sales. Oscars are about sales. They both have commercials about bringing people together. The Superbowl ads are the most expensive on TV. The oscars is the second most expensive. The Superbowl gets the largest audience.

Week 8 EOC: Advertising in the Oscars

For the second year in a row, the Academy Awards are being called out for being as stark white and monstrously aged as the shimmering salt flats of Bolivia. And, while that failure comes as a surprise to exactly zero people, you might be delighted to learn that it's not nearly the only behind-the-scenes problem persistently haunting the Oscars like a mediocre ghost. http://www.cracked.com/blog/5-ways-oscars-are-behind-the-scenes-nightmare/ Most of the winners were all white.

The story of the Oscars this year won’t be written in terms of the Best Picture winner — Moonlight — or the biggest trophy gatherer, La La Land. It won’t be written in terms of host Jimmy Kimmel or memorable speeches. (Honestly, for a year when many were expecting a nonstop assault on the Donald Trump administration, à la the SAG Awards, the speeches were mostly tepid, Viola Davis notwithstanding.) http://www.vox.com/culture/2017/2/27/14747790/oscars-2017-winners-losers-moonlight-la-la-land “Despite significant progress over the last few years, too many women and men on and off college campuses are still victims of sexual abuse,” Biden said. “Let’s change the culture No abused woman or man [should] ever feel they have to ask themselves, 'What did I do?' They did nothing wrong. “He then introduced Lady Gaga to sing her Oscar-nominated song “Till it Happens to You” from “The Hunting Ground.” Gaga, a sexual assault victim herself, was joined by survivors of abuse onstage in a show of solidarity and strength in the face of trauma. In his acceptance speech for Best Picture-winner “Spotlight” – which depicted The Boston Globe's reporting on sexual abuse within the Catholic Church – producer Michael Sugar also spoke about the reform he hoped the movie's win would bring about. “This film gave a voice to survivors, and this Oscar amplifies that voice which we hope will become a choir that will resonate all the way to the Vatican,” he said. “Pope Francis, it’s time to protect the children and restore the faith.” https://www.usnews.com/news/articles/2016-02-29/5-issues-addressed-at-the-oscars-other-than-racial-diversity

Week 7 EOC: The Pitch

"I chose a  Dodge Challenger.  The price is $27,190. It is MPG: 18 city / 27 highway and it goes up to 305 horse power. It has all wheel drive. It has a V8 engine and the available 485-hp 6.4L HEMI® V8 engine include Fuel Saver Technology that automatically deactivates four cylinders when eight are unnecessary. " "When cruising at highway speeds or under light load, the system transforms the engine seamlessly from V8 power to an efficient four-cylinder power plant in less than a tenth of it." second.http://www.dodge.com/challenger.html?
"For less confident drivers who prefer to have a safety net to keep from looping, the GT's Sport mode on the traction control allows for some slip angle before cutting in and straightening things out.""Since rear visibility continues to be sub-optimal in the Challenger, rear parking sensors and a backup camera are welcome bits of standard equipment. Dodge's Performance Pages system with launch control is also included to record 0-60 and lap times, as well as measure g forces." https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/auto/2017-dodge-challenger/preview/

Week 6 EOC: Fake Products

The fake product I found is Chicken Wing Ice Cream. It was made August 14, 2014. The ad says, "Aren’t you tired of eating foods that are just one thing? Sick of "the man" telling you when it's okay to eat? Don’t you want to break with tradition and start eating dessert all day long? Then you're like me- someone who desperately needs some Perry's Chicken Wing Ice Cream in their lives. Too bad we're stuck dreaming of what it would be like to use Sriracha, or barbecue sauce, to make the ultimate ice cream sundae." http://www.neatorama.com/neatogeek/2014/12/06/9-Fake-Products-We-Wish-Were-Real/ It turns out it was an April Fools joke according to the site. "Many of you may have heard about our Chicken Wing ice cream.  Some will be happy to know that it was our April Fool’s Day prank last year!" Then it says, "We do not produce a Chicken Wing flavored ice cream (sorry for any disappointment!). We were very surprised with the numerous requests that came in for the flavor and the many adventurous appetites out there! Although we may not have Chicken Wing, we do have a variety of unique flavors for you to try! We will be announcing our NEW Fall Flavor at the end of August, so stay tuned!" http://www.perrysicecream.com/chicken-wing-ice-cream/
